"Your Word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path."
Praise the Lord that 17 years ago He saved me, forgave me for being the sinner I am, changed my life, and gave me a purpose for living! I have been a follower of Christ for most of my life thanks to the grace and mercy of God. Everything in my life is all because of Him and nothing to do with me!
I went to a Christian school, was constantly in church, and was raised in a God-glorifying environment by amazing, godly parents. I've memorized all kinds of Bibles verses, done Bible studies on many books of the Bible, and have read almost all of God's Word in different sections at different times. But throughout these 17 years of discipleship, in which I have had many ups and downs, I have never made it a goal to read through the entire Bible. Until now.
I was inspired to do this by the book Radical by David Platt.
This book is a must-read. Go get it. Read it. Do it. It is such a convicting and REAL book. Not to replace the Bible by any means, but it will change the way you think about American Christianity for sure! It definitely has for me. It talks about how we are over here stuck in our own little "American dream" absolutely MISSING the point of following Christ and impacting the world! Not to sound overly negative, but it is true. And it gives you practical applications and challenges to change that. One of them being to read the entire Bible in a year.
You might be thinking, how can reading through the Bible in a year change anything at all? It's just spending more time reading rather than doing stuff. Well, I can tell you from my experience that it does change things. We take for granted the powerful tool we have! The Bible is God's Word! People always talk about wanting to know "God's will"...well He gave it to us! It's sitting on your shelf! It's not just for Sunday! It is AWESOME!
The Bible helps me in every single aspect of my life. It is always true. I get to know our amazing Savior through every word. People around the world literally DIE to read this book. We have at least 8 copies in at least 4 different versions in our little apartment, and there are people across the earth walking miles to meet in secret to read ONE Bible that they could have died to get. How can I not take the time to read it every day?
I just started this journey when we got back from our honeymoon and I am so pumped about it. By using the reading plan in the back of my Bible I am reading through the Old Testament and the New Testament at the same time. I love seeing how they relate to each other! I have already read things that I never knew were in the Bible because I had skimmed over them or not read it in depth. I have a MacArthur study Bible which is great because I can read commentary on every verse. Yes, this takes me a while every day, but I read every morning and every night and journal about what I read. It is so worth it. Each day that I read I grow hungrier and hungrier for more! It draws me closer to God every day, and helps me meditate on His word and talk to Him about it throughout the day.
Jordan and I also read together every night, and it is amazing to see how what I am reading in Genesis and Matthew is brought up in what we are reading (which right now is Philippians). We discuss His Word together, which draws us closer to God AND to each other. I am so thankful that Jordan encourages me to read the Word and wants us to do it together too. We have a lot of great ideas of how we can serve the Lord together now as a team and He is working in our hearts every day. Ladies, please make this the #1 thing you look for in a man, it is SO important!
I want to stay on fire about this throughout this whole journey. Even when I'm in books like Leviticus, which may not be the most "fun" book to read. So please ask me about this from time to time! I'm sure I'll talk about it because being immersed in the Word more than I ever have been is seriously changing my life. I definitely need encouragement though. And I am ALWAYS up for talking about the Bible and the gospel with anyone! So please do talk to me about it!
"I rejoice at Your Word
as one who finds great treasure."
